Box 8: water propagation set (£35)

Spring is nearly here and it’s the perfect time to propagate plants! I love the simplicity (and magic) of just snipping a leaf off a plant, plonking it in a bottle of water and watching roots grow and finally a whole new plant emerge. This box has everything you need to do just that: two plants that are really easy to grow new plants from in water (and pretty beautiful too, as a bonus!) and a water propagator station, with two small glass bottles.

The box comes with care guides for the plants and instructions on how to grow new plants in this way (though the short version is simply: cut off a leaf and put it in the bottle, filled with water…)

Please note: delivery is to East Dulwich and local areas only. Or you can come and collect from me.

Price includes delivery. Deliveries will be contact free doorstep drops in a lockdown compliant way.

This box contains:

Water propagation station

Water propagation station

A black metal and glass contemporary style water propagation set. Two small glass bottles hang from string on a solid black metal frame.

To use, just fill the bottles to the brim with water, and place the leaf stalk inside. The narrow tops stop the leaf falling into the water, while the wider bottle provides plenty of space for the roots to grow – and because it’s glass you can watch the whole process happening!

When you’re not using this for propagating, it would also look great with some small bunches of flowers in…

Watermelon peperomia

Watermelon peperomia
(Peperomia argyreia)

If you’ve been anywhere else on this site, you’ll already know how much I love this plant! But it’s not just glorious to look at, it’s also one of the easiest plants to grow into a whole bunch of new plants, either to fill your house or to give to friends… Snip off a leaf at the base of the stem, put it in water, and watch new roots grow.

(12cm pot)

Tradescantia albiflora 'Nanouk'

Tradescantia albiflora ‘Nanouk’

I’m a big fan of tradescantia, and this pink striped version is a particular beauty. Fast to grow, its stems will start to trail out in no time. And, just like the watermelon peperomia, it is really happy to grow into new plants. Pop a stem of this into the water bottle and it will grow new roots incredibly quickly – being ready to pot on in a matter of weeks.

This one tiny plant could easily have been turned into ten big bushy pots full by the end of the year!
